On October 4, 2022, Mildred Maclin, a 62 year old woman who had been living in a nursing home due to poor health, was transported to the Winnebago County Jail on a U.S. Marshal hold.
After nearly a month in jail, she reported stomach pain to a nurse. Medical staff evaluated her before deciding to send her to the hospital. Mildred died on November 2, 2022.
An autopsy by the Winnebago County Coroner ruled her death was “due to multiple medical problems of uncertain cause.”
This incident was the 31st case investigated and deemed justified by the Winnebago Boone County Integrity Task Force and was at least the third of five deaths in the Winnebago County Jail that the task force investigated and justified in 2022.
