The Shooting of Alexander Wasson

On June 1st, 2010, a 911 caller requested a welfare check on Alexander Wasson, a 58 year old teacher at Hononegah High School, after he was reportedly seen entering his home with a gun.

Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to Wasson’s home on Kiowa Crossing, where a two-hour standoff followed.

Around 2:30 PM, deputies entered the residence and found Wasson in the basement without the gun in his hands. Deputies alleged that Alexander then picked up the firearm, prompting Deputy Pete Dal Pra to fire one shot, striking him in the arm.

Alexander Wasson was arrested on aggravated assault charges. He died roughly a month later from causes reported as unrelated to the shooting.

This was the first police shooting in Winnebago County during the 2010s.
